Last Autumn I had the most fun photoshoot with little Archie and his Mum. We met up at one of the most beautiful gardens in Christchurch and found the most gorgeous pile of leaves. The weather was perfect and Archie was just a little dude and was so happy in the leaves.
Archie is the kind of baby that makes me want to have more babies – I have three of my own already but they are not babies anymore. My youngest is nearly 10. Anyway I think that ship has sailed!
We did a lot of photos in a patch of open shade with a lovely green background. I always recommend that babies go bare footed if it’s warm enough – to show their cute little toes and avoid the bottoms of shoes etc. We got Archie’s socks off and he was a true star in the beautiful Autumn weather.
We then put Archie under a large tree with the trunk behind him and he started being cheeky and pulling faces. He was starting to get used to the crazy photographer.
Then we moved to a patch of leaves with a beautiful backdrop of Autumn colours. The sun was going in and out of the clouds so I tried to get as many photos without the strong sun as I could.
Archie’s Mum really enjoyed the shoot as it was just around the corner from her house and was nice and easy, being only about 20 minutes long. I aim to make things as easy as possible for people. That’s my job, a professional portrait photographer, and I love it!
Family photography doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to go to far flung locations – you can if you want, but with babies its just lovely to find a nice garden and take the photos quickly before naptime.
I managed to snatch a photo of Archie and his Mum just as she was bundling him away. She didn’t want a photo of herself, it was meant to be all about Archie, but it is a beautiful photo of the two of them. I love it!
Archie’s parents chose a digital file package as they like to scroll digital files on their TV and see them all the time. They are a very technically minded family and so this suited them so well.
