A couple of months ago I had an amazing family photoshoot actually just around the corner from me in Christchurch.
I took photos for a wonderful family for their dad’s birthday for the dad‘s birthday. They wanted some arty family photos for the wall and an indoor shoot, not outdoors.
The great thing about studio lighting is that it’s often portable. It was a fairly easy process for me to pick up my lighting gear put it in my car and drive around the corner to my client’s house. It was just as well we did an indoor shoot as it was a very rainy night that night. This is what I love about being a Christchurch family photographer who uses studio lights – it gives me a lot of extra options on rainy days for capturing great photos!
I set the gear up in the large living area. There was plenty of space. I wouldn’t be able to do a shoot like this in a small residential house. This house was architecturally designed and had an amazing staircase. There was plenty of room for my large studio light.
The family also had some amazing designer chairs. Apparently they were a bit uncomfortable but the look was fabulous.
Three of the children played instruments so we did portraits with the instruments. The saxophone photo is one of my favourites but the guitar shots are a close second.
As a Christchurch family photographer who also used to be a musician – I got so excited when I heard half the family played instruments. This made my heart sing!
The birthday boy got his own portrait and we did family photos as well. The best ones were on the staircase. Squishing everyone together brings a sense of closeness to the family and a modern family portrait that is slightly posed but not much. It is more informal and modern.
