Business Photography Christchurch
I had a really wonderful photo shoot with Philippa recently. Philippa was after some more relaxed business photography. She didn’t want a boring headshot with a white background. And she didn’t want to look too formal. She wanted to look like she was having a conversation. She came to me as I do a lot of business photography in Christchurch.
Shooting on Location in Central Christchurch
I went around to her flat in the centre of Christchurch and even though I hadn’t been to her house before I knew that I would do some natural light photos and some using studio light in the darker part of her flat. We started off with some natural light photos in a bright west facing window. These were taken in the morning so there was no bright sunshine actually coming through just a nice light. Philippa sat on the couch with her coffee mug on a table next to her and her flat blurred out behind her.
Studio Lighting in the Kitchen | Business Photography Christchurch
We then moved to the kitchen table. Philippa leaned on the table with her beautiful artwork that she owns behind her and I set up some lights on her kitchen bench which I bounced off the wall behind me. This created a beautiful even light in the wall acted as a huge light reflector. The lighting on her face was very flattering and it lit the artworks the coffee mug and everything else in the scene very well.
Changes of Outfit
We had changes of outfit from pink to blue and back again. The final photos were taken in the stairwell below some beautiful birds made of glass which are on her wall.
Published in the New Zealand Herald
The final photos that Philippa chose ended up in the New Zealand Herald in an article about Philippa and her involvement with the Needle Exchange which has saved a lot of lives. She is a very talented lady with a lot of heart and she loves to help people. I’m so happy that we have people in the world like her!
Beautiful Photos | Business Photography Christchurch
I was very grateful to be able to take some beautiful photos of her and she was very happy with them. By getting me to take the photos Philippa had some control over what was going to be in the newspaper. Sometimes the journalist just takes a photo while interviewing or they send a photographer to take the photo but it might not always be the person that wants. I worked closely with Philippa with her ideas and what she wanted and therefore she had quite a lot of creative control. However I was the one who set up the lighting and knew how to relax Philippa and get a natural expression. I also helped her with clothes and colours and even the colour of the mug on the table. I ended up really enjoying the colours of the artwork behind her in relation to her top and the mug. There is a lot of thought has gone into what appears to be a very simple shoot.
A Fabulous Review | Business Photography Christchurch
The whole shoot was a lot of fun and Philippa commented on how much fun it was. Read her review to see what she thought.
“I needed some professional photos at short notice. Belinda was incredibly responsive coming back to me almost immediately to arrange a time. It’s always hard being photographed but she made it easy and fun. I am very pleased with the end result.” Philippa
