When you book Belinda’s premium portraits you will be working with her one on one to design exactly what you want for your house. You will receive off pieces or art that should be printed large and displayed like paintings on the wall These shoots are for everyone, but in particular will appeal to those who are into art, dance, theatre and music.
Belinda can do a full creative shoot for you. Whether you have one child or five, or want a portrait of yourself. She will work with you to discuss who you are as a family, what your house is like and what colours and styles you like and will shoot a piece that is completely yours and no one elses!
Gorgeous Dance Photography
Dance photography is a favourite of hers, where it can be in studio with hand painted backdrops, or in the wonderful backdrop of nature. Belinda will even tramp a couple of hours to a waterfall for that amazing creative dance shot!
It is important to capture your child’s dance ability before they give up dance. Some children will go on to become professional dancers but many will move on to other things in their lives. Having a stand out portrait of your own form enjoying the art form of dance is priceless.
Creative Double Exposures
Double exposures are incredibly creative and often the photo can never be re-created exactly the same again! They are incredibly unique and will make your friends and family gasp in wonder! Most of the time, everything is done inside the camera – with very little Photoshop work.
Fine Art Child Portraits
Belinda’s fine art child portraits are done in studio at Harewood, Christchurch. They are reminiscent of the master painters using Rembrandt lighting, and look amazing printed large on a wall. Belinda can meet your child before the shoot in a consultation, and can incorporate their hobbies (sports, music etc) or create an artwork to suit their personality, as well as some more simple portraits for the grandparents. She has over 100 dresses for girls and a few props for boys. The girls love getting dressed up in massive gowns – their eyes open wide with wonder. She will often meet a child and make a special head piece for them to wear in a shoot!

First Book Your Session
Fill in our fun Questionnaire so that Belinda can design your portrait session just for you. The Questionnaire will ask questions about your family and what kind of shoot you would prefer. Belinda will then contact you to book a time that suits. Alternatively choose a timeslot that suits you and book via the online booking system.
The portrait session is fully booked and confirmed once the session is paid for. The amount of $679 covers Belinda’s time and skills as a photographer plus gives you 10 digital files to treasure. Once booked it means you have also agreed to Belinda’s terms and conditions and the model release.
At this time you can also think about what feature pieces of art you may want for your house. Belinda can talk through ideas with you so that the shoot can be planned to ensure the perfect artwork. We have a range of canvases, framed prints and acrylic prints to choose from which you can read about on the products page.
Before your Session
Check out the Session Guide which will give you instructions for the day. It details what clothing you might like to wear and other details.
Children get to choose several outfits from the clothing in the studio. They will be taught several poses and we can do a mixture of smiley photos, serious photos. I can also do creative shoots for adults which are lots of fun.
I’m an artist and creative photographer so every shoot is different and I may get an extra spark of creativity when I meet your family, however there is a general trend and workflow to my shoots. You will see me play with lighting in the studio, outfits and poses to provide you with a variety of shots – anywhere from 10-30 shots depending on how many children are in the session and other factors.
I am an avid sewer and love making dresses and accessories for my subjects to wear. I also have a collection of exclusive vintage style fashion here for your children from brands such as Dollcake. Sometimes I will just run to the garden for a spontaneous bunch of flowers to add something extra to a photo!
Props can really make a photo, from a favourite decorative umbrella, a musical instrument, a rugby ball or your child’s ballet tutu and shoes. They may love dressing up as superman! Or maybe it is an old family antique – let your imagination run wild. Just think of what your child is really into in their life, or what means a lot to your family, and bring that along, as it adds another element to photos and gives you more to choose from at your design appointment. It can also be a real talking point if you have a quirky and cool photo on your wall that no-one else has that shows your child’s personality!
Your Photography Session
This is the fun part. Belinda strives to make everyone relax and just have fun.
If you are a very adventurous and arty family, I will go the extra mile to create something different for your wall. In some cases this may be a landscape with your family in it, or a photo that incorporates creative tricks done in-camera such as double exposures. Or it could be a fine art studio shoot.
The session will take 1 to 3 hours depending on what we have organised during the consultation. It could take a couple of hours to walk to a waterfall for example. Or we could be doing a short studio shoot with some double exposures.
Your Design Appointment
Your photos are revealed to you at a design appointment about 2 weeks after the photo shoot. The photos will be shown to you on a screen either at the studio in Harewood, or at another place to be arranged. You get to choose your 10 digital files and add on the extra files you love as well as look at printing artwork.
Belinda will help decide which images might suit best for your house to make the whole process a lot easier. Any artwork or extra digital files must be paid for at the design appointment.
In rare cases the design appointment may be held by zoom.
Display Your Artwork
Your artwork will take up to six weeks to be produced. You will pick it up from Belinda Lansley Photography in Harewood. It’s time to take it home and hang it on the wall to create impact in your home! This is the most exciting part!
