{"id":2748,"date":"2018-08-12T21:00:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-12T09:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/?p=2748"},"modified":"2018-08-12T21:00:36","modified_gmt":"2018-08-12T09:00:36","slug":"recycled-dresses-turning-them-into-works-of-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/2018\/08\/12\/recycled-dresses-turning-them-into-works-of-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Recycled dresses &#8211; turning them into works of art!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An exciting part of what I do is when people give me clothing for my business.\u00a0 Often the clothing has a very special meaning to the owner, but they are just ready to clean out the closets and make room for other things.\u00a0 My friend Michelle called me around to her place one day to show me her collection of old ballgowns and flower girl dresses and see if any of them would be useful for my business.\u00a0 I was so excited as they were amazing.\u00a0 Michelle had kept them nicely looked after.\u00a0 They had all been dry cleaned and stored in plastic on hangers.\u00a0 All in superb condition.\u00a0 With some of the dresses, Michelle held them up and said, &#8220;You wouldn&#8217;t want this Belinda&#8221; and I answered with, &#8220;No, you are wrong &#8211; this is amazing!\u00a0 This is different!&#8221;\u00a0 I ended up leaving her house with about six to eight dresses.\u00a0 Michelle was happy as her dresses were going on to live another life, instead of being put in a clothing bin or an opshop.\u00a0 Plus I was extremely happy as it made my creative juices flow.\u00a0 I could imagine what I was going to do with the dresses.\u00a0 What kind of girl I would put in them, what kind of styling and how I could photograph them.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a couple of the dresses I have used so far and the stories behind them plus original photos of the dresses.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle had to search for the photo of a flower girl dress in some old photo albums and made a comment:<\/p>\n<div class=\"_4tdt _ua1\">\n<div class=\"_ua2\">\n<div class=\"_4tdv\">\n<div class=\"_5wd4 _1nc7\">\n<div class=\"._1dlq _h8t\">\n<div class=\"_5wd9 direction_ltr clearfix\">\n<div class=\"_1e-x _n4o\">\n<div class=\"_3_bl\">\n<div class=\"_5w1r _3_om _5wdf\">\n<div class=\"_4gx_\">\n<div class=\"_1aa6\"><span class=\"_5yl5\">&#8220;Oh lordy &#8211; bringing back the 80s!! It ties at the back and then the girls had a flower halo in their hair. I&#8217;ll try and track down a pic.&#8221;\u00a0 Then the photo arrived in a message to me with with the comment, &#8220;Circa 1987. Can&#8217;t wait to see what you do with it!&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Michelle&#8217;s sister wore this cream puffed sleeve dress when she was 13 years old.\u00a0 Her sister is the tallest girl on the right hand side.\u00a0 She looks amazing &#8211; a perfect flower girl.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2751\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/37044844_10213045096257153_201450987137794048_n-1-506x900.jpg?resize=506%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"_4tdt _ua1\">\n<div class=\"_ua2\">\n<div class=\"_4tdv\">\n<div class=\"_5wd4 _1nc7\">\n<div class=\"._1dlq _h8t\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"_40qi\">I did a model call in the July school holidays and chose a girl named Alyssa to wear the dress.\u00a0 At first I felt like she drew the short straw as it was a very different dress and not at all modern &#8211; however when she put it on and I started taking the photos I could see how striking the images were.\u00a0 She looked a little bit like a milk maid, but a very elegant one.\u00a0 Laura Hall from Tiggy Tails did Alyssa&#8217;s hair.\u00a0 We were initially going to do a braid down the side, but decided on a milkmaid braid across the top of her head to add to the effect of the dress.\u00a0 I absolutely love the final images.\u00a0 They are different images from some other ones I&#8217;ve made, and I&#8217;m very proud of them.\u00a0 Thanks Michelle for your sister&#8217;s old dress!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"_4tdt _ua0\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2752\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/37607298_10156463026403688_2773101443467444224_n-600x900.jpg?resize=600%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here is Michelle in a ball dress, aged 15.\u00a0 It is a very late 80s early 90s design with a beautiful lace bodice that has been dyed to match the colour of the skirt.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2750\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/37067175_10213045209619987_6426173189746851840_n-506x900.jpg?resize=506%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2749\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.belindalansleyphotography.co.nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/37190743_10213045210180001_5209332650401071104_n-506x900.jpg?resize=506%2C900\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She made a comment about the photos and this ball:<\/p>\n<div class=\"_4tdt _ua1\">\n<div class=\"_ua2\">\n<div class=\"_4tdv\">\n<div class=\"_5wd4 _1nc7\">\n<div class=\"._1dlq _h8t\">\n<div class=\"_5wd9 direction_ltr clearfix\">\n<div class=\"_1e-x _n4o\">\n<div class=\"_3_bl\">\n<div class=\"_5w1r _3_om _5wdf\">\n<div class=\"_4gx_\">\n<div class=\"_1aa6\"><span class=\"_5yl5\">&#8220;I look like my face fell in a bag of eyeshadow!!! And don&#8217;t ask me what&#8217;s going on with my hair. I blame Mum again. She had everything to do with this whole outfit as I had no clue. It was my first ball and I was only 15.
