Hazel is a beautiful young lady with twins. Check out her blog and website Tiki Touring Twins to read about her adventures. She came to me several months back for a family and maternity shoot. She was so excited to capture her bump.

We went into Christchurch with the golden yellow leaves of autumn and beautiful lighting. We got there quite late at about 10 am but the light was still great as it was late autumn and we had plenty of shade from the large trees. We found a particularly yellow tree which was just perfect.

The first few shots were of Hazel and the twins listening to their mum’s tummy for the sound of their little baby sibling. It was extremely cute and I love their expressions. We then did some standing shots with George and the twins.

I finally did a couple of couple photos of George and Hazel underneath the yellow tree with some beautiful yellow bokeh both in front and behind them. I often use the leaves to add some artistic flare to my photos.

We then did some leaf throwing photos with the twins. The twins were running at me so fast that some of the photos turned out quite blurry, but I still love the effect. These were some of the favourite photos of Hazel and George and perfect for their social media posts.

The final few shots we have Hazel by the river and she looked absolutely beautiful. I did then did some double exposures of Hazel with the pond. One of these I entered into the Iris awards in 2019 but it didn’t win an award. That’s okay though because I still love the print and was able to give it to Hazel is a gift.

Our second shoot was in the studio and Hazel came by herself that day and was further into her pregnancy. The best time to have these pregnancy photos is around 30-32 weeks when the bump is quite pronounced but not too enormous. Hazel was feeling rather tired as she was low in iron and had a lot going on in her life that week, but we achieved some beautiful photos with three different outfits.

I was grateful to Hazel for having such perfect natural makeup and natural yet groomed hair. It makes my job so easy when my model has thought about these things. She just needed a dress to make her look totally amazing!

One of the dresses I bought off my friend Kirsty, in beautiful gold. Kirsty didn’t like the dress as she hadn’t used it enough, but when I put it on Hazel and posted the photo she suddenly realised she’d made a mistake in selling it. She is currently borrowing it for a maternity shoot. This is what photographers do – we help each other out.

Listening to Mum’s tummy
